Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification (STED): Analysis of the engineering products and services sectors in Jordan

This report presents an application of the ILO’s Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification (STED) methodology to the engineering product and services’ sectors of Jordan. STED is a sector-based approach to identifying and anticipating the strategic skills needs of internationally tradable sectors. The engineering product and services’ sectors are one of the most integral sectors in Jordan. It has grown rapidly, serving markets in the Arab/MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, including its own domestic market. 

The sector has been selected due to its potential for growth in regional trade, and positive effects on national employment outcomes. The sector goes in line with several national strategies of Jordan, addressing the skill gaps of relevant sectors to ensure Jordan’s workforce can meet the demands of a competitive, trade-driven, and investment-friendly economy.
