Our mission and objectives

The Global Coalition for Social Justice is a multi-stakeholder initiative established in 2023 by the International Labour Organization (ILO), at the initiative of the ILO Director-General, Gilbert F. Houngbo. It is firmly rooted in the ILO’s historical mandate, as enshrined in the preamble of its Constitution, which affirms that universal and lasting peace can be established only if it is based upon social justice.

Mission and objectives

Foster multilateral cooperation and partnerships, accelerate progress towards social development and the achievement of the multilateral commitments.

The Global Coalition for Social Justice is a multistakeholder platform that advances social justice through political commitment, partnerships, and coordinated action aligned with national priorities and the United Nations reform agenda.

Anchored in major international agreements, including the ILO Centenary Declaration for the Future of Work, the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization, the Doha Political Declaration on Social Development, the Sevilla Declaration, the Paris Declaration on Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet, the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, the Chisinau Declaration on European Social Charter and the Punta Cana Declaration on Social Justice, the Coalition promotes coordinated solutions to reduce poverty, advance decent work, strengthen social inclusion, and accelerate progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Coalition brings together governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations, international and regional organizations, civil society, academia, and enterprises.

The Coalition supports collaboration and collective impact through three complementary means of intervention:

The Coalition was recognized at the Second World Summit for Social Development held in November 2025 in Doha as one of the platforms to support the implementation of the political declaration on  tackling poverty, and of advancing decent work and social integration.
